The kitchen is the room that nurtures our souls and our bodies. It's the hearth of the 21st-century house, and everybody naturally congregates there. |

Winter Foodie Retreat 2003

Our first annual Winter Foodie Retreat was an amazing oasis of incredible food, fabulous wine,
and wonderful company. This is something we'll definitely be repeating next year!

Wine was of foremost importance. We had two windowsills lined like this and that wasn't the
full extent of our availble libations!

Dinner the first night was late as people trickled into the lodge. We had fresh steelhead,
sautéed greens, and more.

Everyone got into the cooking! (What's new?)

On Saturday some energetic souls went skiing and even running, but a few of us took long
naps in front of the fire and roused ourselves in time for a brisk, snowy walk, making sure
to return to the lodge in time for the 3 pm cocktail hour.

The lodge is situated right on the Wenatchee River.

Time to relax and smell the fresh airwow!

The photographer is captured on film.

We were blessed with great weather and were able to enjoy the scenery. These cliffs rise right
across the river.

Saturday evening we enjoyed a huge Mexican pulled-pork BBQ with black beans and tortillas, and
finished things off with cajeta (goat's milk caramel) over caramelized apples.

Cooking together has become a rarity for us.

Yes, Heidi has been known to cook one or two things in the past.

The after-dinner conversation allowed us to stay at the table with our wine.

Several people brought really great bottlesthank you!

We took turns doing the dishes with a quick little game. Thanks for the teamwork everyone!
What a wonderful trip!
