Cooking Tour of Provence: The Estate

About Our French Lodgings
For our Fall 2006 Cooking Tour of Provence, we'll be staying in a gorgeous estate near the village of La Roque-sur-Pernes (click here to see a map of the area).

Transportation
Instead of using a bus, as most tours do, we rent three cars so that the group can be very flexible. Not only is it easier to park and get around in the small villages of Southern France, but we don't stick out quite so badly as tourists. And, if one group wants to stay at the market a little later, or make a side trip here or there, we can accommodate that.
Just Hanging Around
Approach to the Pool The Estate Grounds
The estate is on a hillside overlooking the village of St. Didier, beyond cherry orchards, olive groves, and vineyards. It's a beautiful mansion with modern appointments, private bedrooms, ensuite bathrooms with showers, and beautiful grounds. At left, steps lead up to the outdoor swimming pool.
The Dining Room
We finish most evenings in the dining room, where we share a communal meal we've just made together under the tutelage of Chef Gabriel Claycamp: simple, authentic Provencal cuisine with fresh produce we've purchased in the markets each day.
The Dining Room
In the Kitchen
We are able to truly experience and understand the cuisine of Provence by cooking it each evening. Guests can choose to participate in these informal cooking classes, or lounge by the pool, enjoy a nap, stroll through the orchard, or relax as they please. All menus and recipes for the cooking sessions are provided prior to the trip; any recipes we add at the last minute, based on the chef's and guests' inspirations, will be provided to guests after our return home.

The Bedrooms
There are four private bedrooms, three with ensuite baths, in the main house; two more bedrooms with ensuite baths adjoin the house with separate entrances. Rattan mats cover the estate's stone floors and sunlight floods the airy rooms. All ensuite baths have a shower stall; one has tub and shower.

Sunset from the Estate

A beautiful sunset finished several of our evenings during the May 2006 trip.
